Shure Beta 87A Live Vocal Condendser Microphone

I had the distinct privilege of utilizing this microphone during a live performance. As a vocalist, it does not get much better than to hear your own voice reproduced exactly as you hear it in your mind; and that is exactly what the 87A provides. I, personally, consider this microphone to be Shure's masterpiece. Every nuance is picked up just as it is put out. Issues with muddiness, save for a vocalist's natural sound, vanish instantly.

I play in what can best be described as an insulated shed. I sing in very close proximity to my fellow band members' amplifiers. At the beginning of the night, while the mix was still at what it should always be at, this microphone was like a small slice of musical bliss. Unfortunately, by the end of the night, the instruments were turned up to deafening levels and I had to switch back to the, also recommended, Shure Beta 57A Microphone. Not because of feedback issues, amazingly; but because the condenser was picking up too much ambient sound. Even though I will probably never be able to use this microphone consistently, due to my band mates' love of noise, I really wish that I could. I highly recommend it.

Shure Review
This is a amazing microphone and is one of the best ones i have used.

S-M-O-O-T-H... "Audio Velvet"
Just look around at TV shows and see how speakers, singers, other personalities and performers use THIS microphone. The word has gotten out that if you want to sound your BEST use this baby! I do and I would NOT settle for any less now.

Wonderful for spoken word and podcasting...
After using countless large diaphragm condenser mics over the years, I've settled on the Beta 87a and the Beta 58a for my vocal work.

I've produced podcasts, spoken word pieces and voiceovers with both of these microphones with superb results with hardly any EQ needed. (You can listen to samples at blog.visitronix.com)

Neither one of these mics will let you down. I highly recommend them!

Lives up to hype
Every positive comment about this microphone is right on. I finally have found a mic that captures every resonance, and clarity. I have used it to record and perform live. This is an amazing tech. that delivers real results. I bought it based on reviews without trying it out first, and it was the best mic purchase I have ever made. This mic has a quality that far exceeds the initial investment.

N97XE Replacement Stylus for M97xE Cartridge

It's hard to review the replacement stylus without reviewing the whole cartridge-the stylus don't do much by itself. The Shure M97 cartridge is widely considered the best value in budget audiophile cartridges even at it's normal list of 9.00 though new ones can be had various places in the range of -90.00. The outstanding features are a detail retrieval that rivals or surprasses other MM cartridges costing hundreds of dollars and possibly even matches some of the lower end moving coil cartridges. The replacement stylus slides effortlessy in and out of the main body and comes in a nice plastic case of it's own in case you want to save the old stylus. The stylus tracks at a extremely light .7-1.0 gram minimizing record wear andgiving an ability to reproduce difficult passages. this cartridge and stylus give exceptionally clean tight resolved bass and bottom end. The old stylus was used well over a year and still sounded very good but the new replacemnt did improve sound quality and was well worth it.

Product Description:
A Shure replacement stylus will restore your Shure cartridge to its originally specified performance levels. We strongly advise against the use of non-Shure styli with our cartridges. Such imitations will not perform the same as the stylus being replaced, and, more importantly, could cause permanent damage to your records - severe mistracking can ruin a record in a single play.

Shure DMK5752 Drum Microphone Package

I'll be honest - I'm picky with music gear. It always seems like I find annoying faults with almost any music gear I buy and it's probably my own fault because I set expectations too high and I don't usually have enough cash to buy what I really want. I tend to do what most people in my situation do - look for the best bang for the buck. I guess I just expect too much bang.

This time things were a bit different. My original price point for drum mics was 0.00 but I kept reading posts on various message boards where people upgraded to this mic kit and wished they would have just done that in the first place rather then spending 0.00 now for so-so mics and then later spending more on something better, like these mics. I bit the bullet and decided to get something more mid-range right out of the gate. What I didn't expect was how blown away I would soon be! These mics are AWESOME!

You get 3 SM57s and a legendary Beta 52A. You also get a great hard-shell case and all of the hardware to hook up the SM57s (you will probably need a mini-boom stand for the Beta). Hooking everything up is a snap.

I like playing a 4 piece kit so this mic kit is perfect. I mic my high tom, low tom, snare and bass drum. 5 piece players can get away by miking both high toms with a single mic or if you have 2 floor toms you might need a separate mic stand to get in between the toms (or you could just buy another SM57 for a hundred bucks).

The SM57s pick up the toms amazingly well. I really don't see the need to ever upgrade, I am 100% happy with these as tom mics. The Beta 52 is nothing short of stunning. I still can't believe how good this mic is!

One great thing about these mics is how versatile they are. The SM57s work amazing for toms, great for snare but they also work really well for miking other instruments like guitars. Please check out YouTube and search for "Shure SM57" - you will find that plenty of people use this mic to record guitars and other instruments. The 57 is good for voice as well but not amazing. The Beta 52 is amazing for bass drums but I was absolutely floored when I miked my band-mates bass guitar with this - It sounds 100% professional! I really couldn't believe it. I use only these mics for all my home-recording (except voice). Currently I rely on my tom mics to pick up cymbals (which works decently) but If you want to really pick up your cymbals you will need a couple overheads.

If you are looking for mics on the cheap then do yourself a favor and spend a little more for this kit. I was worried that after spending 0.00 on mics I would have buyers remorse but that isn't the case. I am blown away. It seems like just the Beta 52 alone would be a 0+ mic - it's just such a great mic. If you purchase these mics individually you would spend about 0 and you wouldn't get the mounting hardware or the case. This is a STEAL - even when it's not on sale!

You will not do better for 0.00 so stop searching around already! Yes, there are better mics out there but this is a heck of a kit for a home studio on a budget I assure you.

Definitely worth the money!
I just started recording my own music and these Mics are the best purchase I've made so far. They're much cheaper in a package and comes with everything you need to mount onto a drumset. You'll need to supply your own cables though.

I made a few preliminary recordings with this kit plus 2 Rode NT5's for overheads and the raw recording sounded very professional. After a little bit of tweaking and running a multi-band compressor, the piece sounded awesome!

The SM57's are built to last. I've seem some torture tests and these things just don't seem to want to break.

You will not be disappointed with this purchase.

Great price on TOP quality mics!
These microphones are VERY high quality. SM57's are clear, clean and bulletproof... and after I put the Beta-52 in my kick drum, the 18s shook harder and the 15s punched tighter. The reason for my review, however, isn't to rave about these mics (they speak for themselves, do some research), but to rave about the PRICE. Just buying 3 SM57s individually will cost you 0. Add the Mic clips at a piece, and you're at 0 already, and that doesn't even count the Beta 52, which is now cheaper than free! (and it's the most expensive mic in the kit!). What a deal. I bought 2. At first I wasn't sure I could use the other Beta 52, but I couldn't see paying MORE to buy the other 57s I needed... and as it turns out, that "extra kick mic" sounds GREAT on my 18" floor tom! If you need mics and want quality and aren't rich... BUY THIS SET!

Good mics, great price.
If you're doing live sound or a budget, or just starting to get into decent recording gear, this is definitely not a bad place to start. You can put an SM57 in front of just about anything and get a usable sound. A lot of people love them on snare's and guitar cabs, and get fantastic sounds from them. I'm sure you could get BETTER sound from other mics, but it's a very versatile mic, and is a great bang for your buck. It would never hurt to have 3 in your mic locker... especially if you're doing live sound. I haven't used mine live so I can't comment on the included rim mounts as I use stands in the studio, but they seem like they'd get the job done.

Given the choice, I'd probably prefer to own an AKG D112 over the Beta 52... but I couldn't pass up the price of this pack. I have both, and use them for different things, depending on the sound I want. I'm definitely not complaining about the Beta 52. I'm super happy with it, and it definitely has its place in the studio and venue. The Beta 52 is less expensive... especially if you buy it in this pack. So why limit yourself to one kick mic? Start with this pack, and if you feel like you need another mic down the road when you have extra cash, get a different one. The more the better.

If your goal is to mic a drum kit on a budget, get these and a budget pair of small diaphragm condensers for overheads (MXL 603s perhaps), and you're set.

If you know exactly what you want and don't mind spending a bit more, buy different mics. If you're on a budget (studio OR live), are just getting into the realm of decent gear and need a starting point, or happen to be searching for a few SM57's and a Beta 52, this is the package for you!

Drum Mic kit
If you are playing in a large venue and putting drums through the PA or recording, this is one of the two drum mic kits to get. The other kick drum mic to consider is the Audix D6, but the Shure B52 is used by many professionals, too. As far as the SM57's in the it go, they are the ultimate desert island mic - good on anything. The rim connectors to hold the mics work fine - you will need a small stand to attach the B52 with for the kick drum. Overall, this is one of the best kits out there at a reasonable price - it comes complete with a nice carry case as well.

SHURE PG58QTR Performance Gear Vocal Microphone with 1/4-inch Cable

I started with the Shure PG58 and most recently acquired the Shure SM58. I'd probably be all too ready to agree with those who argue that a Neumann or Telefunken mic costing 5 G's simply isn't that much better than a Nady mic costing 10 bucks. But with respect to the Shure, I'm less sure that the SM58 isn't worth 40% more than the PG58. Perhaps if you have a sufficiently high-powered and "clean" amplifier and have tweaked the EQ settings to favor the frequencies of the human voice, the two mics could be mistaken for one another. It was my attempts to occasionally use an instrument amplifier as an emergency P.A. that led me to realize the PG58 sounded somewhat muted and dull compared to the SM58. Switching to the more common, admittedly more expensive mic, gave me just the extra gain I needed along with added crispness and clarity to the voice (at least for announcements).

P.S. I notice that the head of the PG58 is larger than that of the SM58. Since the rise of the "digital audio workstation" (who doesn't have a computer with free, included Garage Band on it?), large, even gold-plated, expensive-looking but cheap mics are on display all over the place. Despite appearances, when it comes to mics, size doesn't matter--except for appearances (directors of high school show bands will dispense those headsets that wrap half-way around the face, knowing that the girls in the front-line think they're cool--they look just like Madonna'a or Janet's headgear). Some of the best mics are tiny, with an opening the size of a pin-hole.

PG 58
A good microphone for indoor music studios.

I used this for the independant films for a few months and it DID NOT WORK RIGHT!
It is all in 1 channel mono which is annoying as hell!
It would often turn on and off automaticaly unless on a boom, the cords don't stay in correctly at ALL!
It has really pissed off many of us in the productions.

I would only perfer this microphone to musicians.

is a bad price when you can buy a condeser microphone for that works 10 times better!

Perfectly meets my requirements
Nicely built and works well for the singing needs of our friends and family. Mostly being used inside a house, and perhaps the SM series would generate better sound, but I could not tell the difference between this and other more expensive mikes we've used in our singing sessions.

Sorry, Charlie.
I wasn't real impressed with this Mic. Granted, i didn't pay a whole heaping for it, but still. I gave it three stars because it hasn't failed me yet and it's made very well. The biggest drawback was the sound quality. I have a cheaper offbrand mic and it sounds just as good.

Just right for the money.
Building a home studio, owned a few mics before this, some were more expensive some cheaper. This microphone blows them all away, there's a reason Shure has such a good reputation in this industry. This mic is built rock solid, the switch feels really solid and I don't have to worry about it breaking. First time I used this I was absolutely amazed at how crisp and clear the recording was. I'm buying two more.

Shure M78S Wide Groove Monophonic Cartridge

I bought this cartridge, the Shure M78S with intentions of buying another headshell. Using a Stanton H4-S Replacement headshell for a quick swap to play old 78s, on a new audio-technica AT-PL120 (Stanton H4-S Replacement Headshell is great for the money). Instruction that did come with cartridge are NOT correct as other viewers have stated. Even going to the web site did not solve my hum problem at first. I did fix the problem using only one jumper for the two "ground wires" LG & RG(comes with two jumpers connecting R to L & LG to RG "green-blue and red-white"). Using a small knife or whatever slip off R-L jumper that is around the two pins (top two pins). No hum NOW! and enjoying some great old 78s. Hope this is helpful to someone.

Excellent Cartridge
Good cartridge for playing your old 78's. Automatically connects from
mono to stereo connection.

Great Product but Beware of Instructions
The sound quality plucked out of my old 78s is excellent, and the cartridge does it with a low tracking force. Highly recommended.

Beware, however, of the installation instructions. For proper operation, remove the jumpers. Thanks to other reviewers for the heads-up on this.

Perfect!
The cartridge mounted perfectly on my Dual CS5000 turntable, and plays 78 rpm records beautifully. I am more than content.

A good choice for the money
I have transferred almost 100 78 recordings to my computer and then burned them to CD using this cartridge. I did have to raise the tracking force from 3 to 3.5 grams to insure better tracking, especially on any recordings that are warped. I use this cartridge solely for 78 recordings. There are cartridges that track at 4-5 grams, but they cost more. Each person has to decide whether that cost is worth it. For the price the Shure m78s is a good buy.

Shure C606-WD All-Purpose Dynamic Microphone with XLR Cable and 1/4-inch Adapter

What can I say? You get what you pay for. I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could. This is a pretty solid microphone, somewhere near the top of the inexpensive line of mics. I'm sure if you're looking for some serious quality and/or recording, you'll probably want to look elsewhere. I use this one for karaoke and singing while I play guitar, and it's pretty solid.

Not a great mic,but worth the price
Its a cheap mic and you get what you pay for. It a crappy vocal mic, but if ur using it in a studio like i was it can be somewhat useful. Works good for micing a drum and with some decent EQ, its not terrible. In terms of using it as a vocal mic, I had some problems. First its very sensitive to any type of sudden movements. If you don't hold it tightly, you will get loud booms any time u move. Overalll, you can make up for the sub par quality by using it in combination with their high quality mics.

Mic Review
Great mic for the money. This will do nicely until i have the money to buy a more profesional studio mic.

Worth the money
For it's kind of a no-brainer to me. It works pretty well. Sorta quiet, but clear.

Shure 55SHII Shure 55SH Series II Dynamic Microphone (the Elvis Microphone)

I sing lead vocals for a 20-piece Big Band, and I also own a Web business for which I do audio recording; so, I wanted a mic that works well for both applications. The Shure mic exceeds my expectations.

From a live perspective, the mic does a great job of clearly picking up the lows and mids in my voice. It gives a very true representation of my tone, and doesn't accentuate plosives at all -- even when the volume is cranked up. I've gotten lots of compliments from musicians who can't believe how inexpensive the mic is for the quality. Plus, it looks FANTASTIC on stage.

Recording is great, too. It picks up vocals without pulling in too much ambient noise. It has a warm, well-rounded sound.

I love this mic!

Nady or Shure?
I bought the Nady pcm-200 before the Shure, the Nady has more power fatter sound but it's very stand noisy. The noise makes it un-useable on a wooden floor like most stages are made of. The shure has no mic-stand noise less S-and-P problems and it's just more professional,The extra cost is worth it in the end.

Great Looker
My son was so happy to receive this microphone for Christmas. I can't tell you about the sound quality, but according to him Shure is a good brand. It was definitely one of his Christmas morning highlights. Its a great looking mic that makes quite a statement. Thanks to the supplier I received this item just in time too.

A Stunning Visual W-O-W... A Compelling Audio B-L-A-S-T
It seems the whole world looks like a bowl of oatmeal with sameness all around. But, if you want to stand APART from the crowd and ABOVE the crowd, get this fantastic microphone! I use it both for prop effect and actual audio recording for my entertaining videos. Its quality, appearance and performance are second to none and the price is fabulous. Go back and take a look at the old Elvis videos and films and see how he turned the original classic mic into a piece of moving art that defined his style and charisma. Be creative when using this microphone, honor its heritage... and you too will turn into a unique performer and personality!

A must have
I'm really happy with this mic. Live and recording, both amazing. I'd recommend it without any doubt (and it looks so damn good!)

Shure has offered this cartridge and stylus combo almost since the inception of stereo records in 1958. The exceptional performance includes, but is not limited to, exceptionally resonant bass and flat highs with no mid-range accent like some other cartridges introduce.

This cartridge and stylus combo manages to reproduce an even-keeled tonality which works over a wide variety of records, even 78 RPM recordings with the original M44-designed diamond stylus inserted (this stylus was last manufactured in the 90's by Shure).

Radio stations used this cartridge where better performance was demanded of the stylus under abusive conditons versus the Stanton which was often found in studios as well during the 60's, 70's and 80's.

I am purchasing a new one, because the original I've had for 25 years is finally falling apart internally (electrical noise, channel imbalances and the stylus will now fall out of the grip). The cartridge and stylus was already used when I acquired it, but I have taken exceptional care of this for all these years. The stylus actually has out-lived the cartridge! Considering the number of years this one has lasted, and the fact that Shure is manufacturing the new ones exactly in the same fashion as the original means this should be the last cartridge I should ever have to buy for the rest of my professional career. The price versus how many years of durability and reliability make this more than exceptional value, it's practically free!

If you're an audiophile, you'll still appreciate the delicacy it can reveal even in the most demanding recordings, even while tracking some of the most harsh perterbations of the groove.

This cartridge's specs usually are always above the book values, always have been, that's Shure's QC. Read the specs, and you'll know that is the MINIMUM performance you can expect out of their product. Anything less than spec gets re-labeled and sold at Radio Shack.

In short, just buy it, it's worthy of any turntable!

Good Stylus and Cartridge
If you've been using Stanton 500's or anything similar (-), you'll think this was perfection. But if you're an audiophile used to Grados, this'll be... well now to be honest it isn't bad but it's far from the ideal sound. I picked this one up because it's got a good sound, good anti-skip, won't burn out my records and while I'm not a fan of abusing my vinyls (scratching, etc.), this one was designed to handle it so you've got that option to if you want. In short, it's not bad at all.

Keep in mind though that this doesn't come with a headshell. Has screws, etc. but no headshell.

Best scratch needlz ever
Wow I definitely think that sure really did it with this one. The needlz don't skip even out hard I try it wont skip unless I bang the table. these are great scratch needlz. The sound that comes out of these is superb. I think these are great for the average turntablest or pro. A+++
