Shure SM11 Lavalier Microphone

I bought 2 of these for use in my Zoom H4. Unfortunately, the Zoom does not boost this mic enough (Zoom's fault). I have the updated firmware, and know all of my settings are at max. This problem means I have to raise levels on the audio files I make with it using the Zoom, which also raises the hiss from the Zoom's noise floor.

Basically, this is not a very sensitive microphone for such a use. It's just fine through an audio board with enough oomph to deal with the output -- just don't buy it for a Zoom product like the H4.

Excellent Product
This microphone is fantastic. The sound is crisp and clear and works with a wide range, from vocals to accoustics.

The only bad thing is that the clips are clumsy and often dislodge from the base connector. Need better clips to hold on to the mic.

    Just bought this for presentation recordings and hooked it up via audio mixer via USB to Laptop, sound is crisp after a few minutes of practice placing it on a jacket/shirt and really helps isolate your voice during instructional scenes. Phantom powered (total novice but read up and worked it out) so needs a mixer/power source for it to work. Great build qulaity, preamp is heavy and sturdy (clippable in back pocket)

    Shure SM93 Microphone
    Pure and simple, these are wonderful little microphones.

    I do have a problem with the little clip that comes with them - that you clip onto the person speaking. These little clips break easily. Because of that, I recommend that you pick up the after market B&H Photo Video clip for the SM93 as it is built tough!

    I have never had a problem with these microphones, and I have used them for a good number of years.

    What can I say? You get what you pay for. I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could. This is a pretty solid microphone, somewhere near the top of the inexpensive line of mics. I'm sure if you're looking for some serious quality and/or recording, you'll probably want to look elsewhere. I use this one for karaoke and singing while I play guitar, and it's pretty solid.

    Not a great mic,but worth the price
    Its a cheap mic and you get what you pay for. It a crappy vocal mic, but if ur using it in a studio like i was it can be somewhat useful. Works good for micing a drum and with some decent EQ, its not terrible. In terms of using it as a vocal mic, I had some problems. First its very sensitive to any type of sudden movements. If you don't hold it tightly, you will get loud booms any time u move. Overalll, you can make up for the sub par quality by using it in combination with their high quality mics.

    Great mic for the money. This will do nicely until i have the money to buy a more profesional studio mic.


    Worth the money
    For it's kind of a no-brainer to me. It works pretty well. Sorta quiet, but clear.
